Odessa – 1 Killed in Pedestrian Crash on IH-20

A Barstow resident was killed after getting struck by a vehicle on Interstate Highway 20 near West County Road in Southwest Odessa.

According to initial reports, a vehicle was traveling along the westbound lane of IH 20 when it encountered a mechanical problem at around 2:30 a.m. When the driver stepped out of his vehicle to check he was then struck by a Dodge Challenger. The impact seriously injured the driver who was later identified as Louie Rico Jr., a 23-year-old resident of Barstow. He was pronounced deceased shortly after emergency crews arrived at the scene.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

Odessa police did not release information about the driver of the Dodge. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
