HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man died Wednesday evening after a motorcycle crash involving two other vehicles off North Freeway near north Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal accident occurred in the 16700 block of the southbound freeway’s service road, south of Cypress Station, at about 5:29 p.m.
An preliminary investigation indicates a white Honda Odyssey was heading southbound in the #2 lane of the road, with a white GMC Sierra traveling behind it. A rider on a Honda CBR600 was traveling southbound in the #3 lane when the Honda merged into the same lane in order to turn into a driveway on the roadway’s west side. The motorcyclist then sped up and changed into the #2 lane to go around the Honda.
Authorities said the rider failed to control his speed, causing him to collide with the back right side of the GMC. The impact of the crash sent the rider sliding southwest on the roadway, where he hit the back of the Odyssey.
First responders pronounced the rider deceased at the scene shortly after. He was said to have not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Both of the other drivers remained after the event and cooperated with officers. They were not suspected of intoxication.
