A pedestrian versus vehicle collision on US 59 took the life of one person last Saturday night.
According to initial reports, the wreck occurred on U.S. 59 at the North Park entrance at around 10 p.m. A Toyota Camry that was traveling along the northbound lanes of the highway pulled over at the right hand shoulder of the road. As the driver stepped out of the vehicle, he was then struck by a passing Chevrolet Silverado. The impact was so great that it almost ripped the vehicle’s door off. The Chevrolet driver stopped at about 150 yards from the scene and was taken to Kingwood Hospital for a mandatory blood draw. His identification has not been disclosed.
The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Thoi Hull Ho. Ho was reportedly driving back to Longview with his wife.
No charges have been made but it was suspected that the Chevrolet driver may have fallen asleep during the time of the incident.
Investigation is still underway.
With sincerest sympathies, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We strongly believe that the Montgomery County Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
