Mitchell County – Michael Scales Killed in Major Car Accident on I-20

Mitchell County law enforcement officials have released the name of the man who died in a fatal vehicle accident on Interstate 20, Friday.

Just after 6:00 a.m., police responded to I-20 to assist in a crash between a pickup truck and an undescribed vehicle. According to the initial investigation, a vehicle operated by 62-year-old Michael Wayne Scales was seen traveling along the highway when it ignored a sign, ultimately colliding with a pickup truck that was attempting to enter the interstate.

The impact of the crash left the driver of the pickup truck with serious injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed in an unknown condition. Meanwhile, Scales sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway.
