At approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, a crash occurred on FM 39 near PR 5425A that killed a couple from Groesbeck.
According to the Texas Department of Safety, the car was traveling south when it suddenly left the roadway. Daryl Ferguson, the 36-year-old driver, attempted to get back on the road, but the sedan crossed into the northbound lane, left the roadway again, and then finally overturned.
Fergus died at the scene. His wife, 38-year-old Johanna Ferguson, was not wearing a seatbelt, thus resulting to her being ejected when the car overturned, which killed her immediately as well.
Their children, 17-year-old Bryston, 15-year-old Camden, 13-year-old Kovan, and 6-year-old Jaylee, are left orphaned after this accident. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
It is unfortunate to hear of the fate of the Ferguson couple and of their immediate family. No one deserves to lose a loved one because of a car accident, but unfortunately, car accidents like this happen quite often. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
A rollover is a particular kind of vehicular accident, and it is one of the deadliest. In a 2010 statistics, rollovers only comprised 2.1% of the nearly 9.1 million vehicular crashes, which may not seem much, but they accounted for nearly 35% of all deaths. Studies have shown that the majority of the people who died from rollovers (69%) were not wearing any safety belts. This seemed to fit the case of what happened to the Fergusons.
If you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then don’t lose hope. Car accident lawyers and personal injury lawyers will be more than willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
