Two children were dead after a fatal collision involving a train and a car occurred on County Road 1136 near Mathis on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, the crash occurred at approximately 10:30 in morning. The car was driven by a 30-year-old man with 2 boys, 12-year-old Aden and 8-year-old Jacoby Posada, and a 5-year-old girl, and allegedly, the driver failed to stop at the stop signs and the crossing.
The train was approaching from the car’s right side, and upon the collision, the car was pushed into a cable barrier and crushed by the force of the train.
The two boys were pronounced dead at the scene, unfortunately. The driver and the 5-year-old girl were brought to local hospitals and were reported to be in critical condition.
Investigations showed that the little girl and one of the boys were not wearing a seatbelt.
It is unfortunate to hear of the deaths of the two children in this particular accident. Alas, they are not the first victims whose lives are taken away by a vehicular accident, particularly a train accident. According to the National Transportation Safety Bureau, nearly every 2 hours, someone or a vehicle is hit by a train in the U.S. Some of the common scenarios in this kind of vehicular accident are derailment, train-train collisions, train-car collisions, train-person collisions, and damage to property.
Studies have shown that nearly 1,000 people die every year in the United States because of a train accident. Additionally, the occurrence and frequency of train accidents has been said to escalate since 1997.
Train accidents are undoubtedly tragic and devastating, and as if that is not bad enough, they can also be very complicated and difficult for the victims. Thankfully, there are experienced lawyers who specialize in this kind of accident, so if you are a victim of a train-related accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to seek for help because there will always be someone ready to help you.
