Man killed by hit-and-run driver in Houston’s Mid-West neighborhood

HOUSTON, TX — A 40-year-old man died Monday evening in a hit-and-run collision in Houston’s Mid-West area, reports Houston Police Department.
According to HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the crash took place in the 10000 block of Westpark Drive at approximately 8:20 p.m.
An investigation found the victim was fleeing a nearby convenience store after having stolen an item. As he attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the road, he was struck by a vehicle, which caused him to land in a grassy area near a bus stop. The driver of the drove away from the scene without stopping to render aid.
Officers responding to the incident at the store discovered the victim and administered aid before before medics arrived.
Authorities said the victim was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police are actively searching for the at-fault driver and vehicle, described as a light-colored SUV or van. The vehicle was last spotted going east on Westpark Drive toward South Gessner Road.
An investigation is ongoing.
