HOUSTON, TX — A man died Monday morning when he was by multiple vehicles while crossing Farm-to-Market Road 1960 in north Houston, reports ABC13 Houston.

The fatal incident occurred near the Hafer Road intersection at around 5:50 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man, who was in a wheelchair, was attempting to cross eastbound FM 1960 when he was hit by a white Dodge Charger. The impact of the initial crash sent the man into the westbound lanes, where he was struck multiple times.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said he had not been in a marked crosswalk at the time.

The first driver fled the scene but authorities were later able to locate the suspect Dodge Charger, which showed damage consistent with the collision.

An investigation was underway to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the event. Multiple charges are expected to be filed against the fleeing driver.

No further information has been disclosed at this time.
