Man fatally hit by vehicle on Westheimer Rd in Houston’s Uptown area

HOUSTON, TX — A 69-year-old man died late Monday night after being hit by an SUV while crossing a road in Houston’s Uptown area, reports Houston Police Department.
HPD’S Vehicular Crimes Division said the crash happened in the 5400 block of Westheimer Road at around 11:45 p.m.
The male pedestrian was walking across the road’s travel lanes as westbound traffic was passing on a green light. As the man continued to cross the road, he was hit by a black Cadillac Escalade. The Cadillac, which had swerved in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, was sent up onto a nearby sidewalk where its passenger side struck a light pole.
Authorities said the male pedestrian was rushed to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 32-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. He was not suspected of impairment and was released after questioning.
An investigation is ongoing.
