HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Monday after being struck by a vehicle while getting out of his disabled car along Gulf Freeway in downtown Houston, reports Houston Chronicle.
The fatal crash happened near Scott Street at around 2:20 a.m., moments after the victim was involved in a wrong-way wreck.
Houston police said the man had been driving a silver Toyota Corolla in the wrong direction and collided with a black Nissan Altima, but no one had been hurt in that collision.
Witnesses told authorities a black Buick sedan was speeding and traveling recklessly down the road when it collided with one of the stopped cars and the driver of the Corolla.
The victim died from his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Buick, who told authorities he had been drinking, is expected to be charged “pending toxicology results or a grand jury.”
