HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Friday morning after a two-vehicle collision on the North Freeway near Houston’s Greater Greenspoint area, reports Click2Houston.
The fatal wreck occurred in the 13500 block of the North Freeway service road at about 12:00 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a gray Toyota Corolla was heading northbound in the left-turn only lane, approaching the Rankin Road intersection. A white 2013 Honda Accord was speeding behind the Toyota in the same lane when it collided with the back-left side of the victim car.
Deputies said the impact of the crash caused the Honda to lose control and flip multiple times before coming to rest on its roof in the northbound U-turn lane.
The driver of the Honda, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. He was administered CPR and rushed to HCA Houston Northwest Hospital, where he later died about an hour and half later.
Although the driver of the Toyota was determined not to have caused the crash, they were arrested for DWI after displaying signs of intoxication at the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
