HOUSTON, TX — A 62-year-old man was fatally injured Monday when he was struck by a pickup truck reversing out from a southeast Houston parking lot, according to Houston Police Department.

HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the incident occurred on 4300 Telephone Road in the city’s Gulfgate/Pine Valley area at approximately 3:15 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck was backing out of a private parking lot and onto Telephone Road when he collided with the male pedestrian, who was reported to have been crossing the roadway not in a marked crosswalk or intersection.

The victim was transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center with critical injuries. Authorities confirmed he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Ford, a 47-year-old man, remained after the incident and was questioned by police. He was later released pending further investigation.
