HOUSTON, TX – Authorities stated a man ran multiple red lights before he crashed his car into a tree and died during a police pursuit in the Westpark area early yesterday morning.

According to KHOU, the collision happened near the Westpark Tollway in the 3400 block of S Dairy Ashford Road at around 2 a.m., after a driver reportedly ran a red light near Briar Forest Drive.

Police then began a pursuit, and the driver is said to have sped away, running at least three more lights in the process.

At some point, police said they lost sight of the driver, who continued to speed away. A short time later, they discovered his vehicle crashed against a tree.

Despite the attempts of emergency crews to rescue the driver from the wreckage, he died at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release his identity.

Police do not believe anyone else was hurt in the accident.
