HOUSTON, TX — A man was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after a major rollover collision on the East Freeway in east Houston, according to KHOU11.

Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division said the accident took place on the westbound lanes near Mercury Drive (Exit 776A) at approximately 3:30 a.m.

An early investigation shows the man was driving westbound when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a guardrail. The impact caused the vehicle to roll multiple times before it came to a stop on the freeway’s feeder road.

Authorities said the victim, believed to be between 25 to 30 years old, was ejected in the crash. He was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The event left a section of the roadway temporarily shut down during the emergency response.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was underway.
