Lufkin – Train Crash on Southwood Drive

A train collision caused the death of one person on South Drive, Wednesday morning.
Just after 12:00 a.m., Lufkin local troopers responded to Southwood Dr near Loop 287 to assist in a collision involving a train. Preliminary investigation shows that a sport utility vehicle was traveling down a driveway when it was hit by a passing train. The impact of the collision left the driver of the SUV, identified only as a female, with serious injuries. She later died at the scene, as per emergency crews. Her identification was withheld pending notification of her immediate family relatives.
No other injuries were reported.
Lufkin police did not confirm if there were passengers in the train at the time of the accident. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
