Lubbock – Two Died in Vehicle Collision on County Road 5400

The Lubbock Police Department is conducting an investigation about a car accident on County Road 5400, Tuesday.
According to the initial investigation, the incident took place on CR 5400 near Highway 62/82. A vehicle was traveling along the highway, on the opposite side of the road, when it crashed into another vehicle. The impact of the crash was so great, leaving both vehicles bursting into flames. Emergency crews had to extricate an 11-year-old occupant from the wreckage. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries that were considered serious. Authorities said both drivers of the involved vehicles sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identification was withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
No one else was injured.
Area investigators are still determining why the first vehicle was on the wrong direction.
