Lubbock – Man Struck by Car on 89th Street

The Lubbock Police Department is investigating an auto versus pedestrian crash on 89th Street, Monday night.

At around 9:00 p.m., a man was in his wheelchair heading south on the right side of 89th Street near University Avenue when he was struck by a passing pickup truck. The victim, identified as 59-year-old Frank Sanchez, sustained fatal injuries from the impact of the crash. He was immediately taken to University Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased a few moments later.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene until responding officers arrived at the scene. It is not determined if he will be facing any charges.

Area investigators are still determining the circumstances leading up to the accident. No further details are available at this time.
