A man who was hospitalized following a fatal accident on Interstate 27 last August 23 has succumbed to his injuries, Sunday, according to a local news source.
Police said the incident took place at 1:58 a.m. at the intersection of the I-27 southbound frontage road and 34th Street. A 2016 Ford Edge was heading south on the highway when, for yet unknown reasons, it struck the rear of a 2003 Ford Mustang. The impact of the collision left one occupant in the Mustang severely injured. He was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was taken with what were initially considered non-incapacitating injuries in the crash. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased last Sunday.
Authorities have identified the victim as 43-year-old Phillip Maples.
No other injuries were reported.
The Lubbock Police Department is investigating the crash.
