The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is still investigating a car accident that caused the death of one person on Highway 84 last Friday morning.
At around 2:46 a.m., the major wreck took place at County Road 1100 and U.S. Highway 84 west of Shallowater. According to reports, a car was heading west on Highway 84 when, for yet unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and crashed into another vehicle parked nearby. The hitting vehicle landed on its roof after the impact.
The collision killed the sole occupant who was at the backseat of the car during the time of the collision. He was identified as Kenley Gene Raney, a 40-year-old resident from Henderson.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was not yet identified. Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash but DPS troopers said that alcohol and speeding may have played a role in the collision.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased victim. We strongly believe that the Lubbock Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Texas is among the states in the US that have the most car accidents which involved injuries and fatalities every year. Some of the common factors contributing to the rising cases of collisions in the area include the worsening traffic situation, weather conditions, and poor driving habits.
Bad driving habits are the greatest cause of a fatal crash. It can be lethal to the person behind the wheel, as well as the drivers on the road. Drivers who do not use their signal to change lanes or those who do not secure their blind spots before shifting direction are more likely to be involved in an accident. Some of the most dangerous driving habits include speeding, unsafe lane change, tailgating, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you or someone you love has been a victim of a car accident with a negligent driver, you have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
