Loving County – Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision on Texas 302

A fatal auto crash on State Highway 302 resulted in the death of one woman last October 11, Friday.

At around 4:00 p.m., local police officers were dispatched to SH 302, five miles of Mentone, in response to a crash involving a 2017 Ford F-250 and a 2019 Peterbilt truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer. According to the report, the Peterbilt was heading west on the highway when it failed to give way to approaching Ford F-250 that was traveling along the southbound lane of a private road, prompting a crash.

The driver of the Ford died at the scene. She was was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Phyllis Young. Police said the female driver was wearing a seatbelt. Meanwhile the driver of the Peterbilt was not injured. He was identified as Jose P. Bonilla-Melendez, 30, of Odessa.

Mentone police are investigating the accident.
