One injured and another died following a fatal truck collision on Interstate 35, early Wednesday.
Local authorities responded to mile marker 317 after receiving a call reporting a crash at around 5:15 a.m. An 18-wheeler truck was heading north on Interstate 35 when, for yet unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and collided with a dump truck resting on the shoulder. The truck was then engulfed in flames, trapping its driver and passenger.
A passerby extracted the driver from the wreck. He was initially taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center and was later transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Initial reports show that he sustained burns on 30% of his body.
The passenger was located inside the vehicle after emergency officials extinguished the fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
No identification was released but it was determined that the victims were a couple.
The crash remains under investigation.
