Longview— George Melton Struck and Killed by Car on Loop 281

A 59-year-old man who died after getting involved in a fatal collision on Loop 281 last Tuesday morning has been identified.
According to investigators, the major wreck involved multiple vehicles and took place at the intersection of Birdsong Street and Loop 281. When local emergency crews arrived at the scene, at least four cars had collided with each other. A man was assisting oncoming vehicles and was standing in the inside lane of northbound traffic when he was struck by another vehicle. The impact of the collision killed him instantly. He was identified as 59-year-old George Melton from Longview.
The driver of the hitting vehicle did not stop at the scene and escaped. Investigators are looking for a gray or silver 2003 to 2006 Lincoln Navigator. It has a damage on its front side with a missing fender and a headlight.
The crash remains under investigation.
