Posted on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 at 8:29 pm

On Saturday, January 12, 2019, a fatal car crash occurred on FM 153, near Winchester, which is located 20 miles outside of La Grange, and it killed Stephen Smith, a 25-year-old resident of Sugar Land.

According to reports, Stephen Smith is a former Texas State student-athlete who was the linebacker for the Bobcats football team from 2012 to 2016.

It is quite unfortunate to hear of the passing of this young football rising star, but alas, his life isn’t the first one to be claimed by a fatal car accident. Car accidents are a serious problem in this day and age, and yet they still happen quite often. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.

The three common causes of car accidents are DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), speeding, and driving while distracted. It is unknown as of right now as to what caused the crash, but deep condolences to Smith’s family and friends. Smith did not deserve to lose his life because of a car accident.

If you are a victim of a car accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will be there for you, but more than that, car accident attorneys are always present to help you protect your rights and get you the justice that you deserve.
