Killeen — Early Morning Rollover on State Highway 195

At around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, a vehicular rollover occurred on State Highway 195, just south of Killeen, in Bell County.
According to reports, an unidentified man was driving his Audi down the highway when he suddenly hit a culvert after swerving right, which caused him to go airborne before overturning. The crash happened near the highway’s intersection with Mountain Creek Road.
Luckily, the driver was not critically injured. He was immediately treated at the scene.
It is good news to hear that the driver was relatively all right after this accident. Unfortunately, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky as he is. Car accidents like this happen quite often. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
Additionally, the NHTSA also reports that 85% of fatal car accidents happen on the open road while 15% happen near intersections.
A rollover is a particular kind of vehicular accident, and it is one of the deadliest. In a 2010 statistics, rollovers only comprised 2.1% of the nearly 9.1 million vehicular crashes, which may not seem much, but they accounted for nearly 35% of all deaths. Studies have shown that the majority of the people who died from rollovers (69%) were not wearing any safety belts. This seemed to fit the case of what happened to the Fergusons.
