A fatal Tuesday night crash took the life of a Falfurrias man on US Highway 281 near Premont, according to the Texas Department of Safety.

At around 9:38 p.m, a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze was heading south on US 281 when it struck a man that was attempting to cross the southbound lanes. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The pedestrian was identified as 33-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez.

No other injuries were reported as of this writing.

Preliminary investigation shows that the area was dark and poorly lit when the accident took place. No charges have been made as the investigation is still ongoing.

DPS officials were called onto the scene to determine liability.

With sincerest sympathies, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We strongly believe that the Jims Wells County Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.

Texas is among the states in the US that have the most car accidents which involved injuries and fatalities every year. Some of the common factors contributing to the rising cases of collisions in the area include the worsening traffic situation, weather conditions, and poor driving habits.
Bad driving habits are the greatest cause of a fatal crash. It can be lethal to the person behind the wheel, as well as the drivers on the road. Drivers who do not use their signal to change lanes or those who do not secure their blind spots before shifting direction are more likely to be involved in an accident. Some of the most dangerous driving habits include speeding, unsafe lane change, tailgating, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you or someone you love has been a victim of a car accident with a negligent driver, you have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
