HOUSTON, TX – Abdimalik Maigag, 29, was killed in a car accident Sunday evening by a driver suspected of operating his vehicle while intoxicated, ABC 13 reports.
The driver, Jose Talamantes, has two prior DWI convictions, one in 1986 and one in 2013.
“It’s his third one and I’m really shocked that he’s been given this many chances, and now, ended someone’s life,” the victim’s brother Aden told ABC 13.
Click 2 Houston reports that the accident occurred at about 9:25 p.m. at the southbound US 59 feeder road near Hillcroft Avenue.
Police say that Talamantes rear-ended Maigag’s Honda with such force that Maigag was ejected from his vehicle, which was pushed onto a concrete pylon. Talamantes’s Cadillac came to rest on top of the victim’s body.
Talamentes fled the scene and returned to his nearby home, but was pursued by witnesses whose quick thinking assisted the police in his arrest.
