At least one person sustained serious injuries after a two-car crash on US Highway 62, Wednesday morning.
Preliminary investigation shows that the incident took place at around 4:00 a.m. along the westbound lane of Highway 62 (also known as Texas 114). According to initial reports, a 2012 Ford pickup truck was heading west on the highway when, for reasons that had not yet been determined, it crossed the center median and drifted into the opposing lanes where it crashed into a 1988 Peterbilt semi-truck.
The driver of the pickup was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to University Medical Center where he received medical treatment. The driver of the semi-truck, identified only as a Lubbock man, did not sustain any injury. No identifications were released at this time.
Responding officers said both drivers were reportedly wearing seat-belts.
An investigation is underway.
