HOUSTON, TX – A man was fatally struck by the driver of a Houston Police officer during a high-speed chase that ended on Reed Road on Saturday evening, according to KHOU.

The incident began at around 5 p.m. after a woman was reportedly robbed of her vehicle and purse at gunpoint at 7510 Bellfort Avenue. Officers were able to locate the vehicle near the 9100 block of Scott Street, and a chase began.

Towards the end of the pursuit, one of the officers lost control of their vehicle and ran off the side of the roadway. There, they collided with a man walking on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:51 p.m.

Police were able to track down the stolen vehicle and apprehend three of the five juveniles inside, who fled the scene on foot. Those three are facing charges of aggravated assault in connection with the case.

The officers who struck the victim were placed on administrative leave, and reportedly have been working with the police department for less than two years.

The incident remains under investigation and will likely be put before a grand jury to determine if charges are necessary.
