Houston – Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 45 Kills 1

At least one person was pronounced dead while another was sent to a hospital following a fatal collision on Interstate 45 near Interstate 10, Monday.
According to initial reports, a white pickup entered the southbound lanes of Gulf Freeway in the opposite direction causing a collision with a passing white Mustang. The impact of the collision killed the driver of the Mustang. His passenger, identified only as a woman, sustained serious injuries from the crash. She was taken to a hospital for treatment. Their identities were not immediately released.
The driver of the pickup truck was later identified as Juan David Almanza, 36. Officers said Almanza was intoxicated at the time of the crash and faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter. It was not determined whether or not he was hurt.
All southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway were temporarily closed until around 6:30 a.m.
The investigation is still in progress.
