Houston – Woman in wheelchair struck on Wirt Road

Emergency medical services responded to a pedestrian versus vehicle crash on Wirt Road, Wednesday night.
According to reports, a pedestrian on a mobility scooter was exiting an apartment complex at the 1800 block of Wirt Road. When she was attempting to cross the street, she was struck by a silver Toyota 4Runner. The victim who was identified only as an 86-year-old woman was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigators. His identification was not released.
Based on the preliminary investigation, neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the collision. The investigation is still in progress.
