Houston- Second Driver Involved in Deadly Aldine Mail Route Crash Charged

The suspect involved in a crash resulting in the death of a 45-year-old driver has made his court appearance, early Tuesday morning.
The driver was identified as 48-year-old Christopher Lopez. He was charged with manslaughter, hit and run and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to reports, Lopez chased an SUV with teen occupants after they threw eggs at his car. The said chase ended with a crash when the SUV slammed into a Ford pickup truck after beating the red light at the intersection of Aldine Mail Route. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 45-year-old single mom Silvia Zavala.
The 1970s Lincoln Continental driven by Lopez did not stop and escaped the scene. He will be facing up to 20 years in prison if he’s convicted of the charges.
The 14-year-old driver of the SUV sustained injuries from the crash. He’s also facing murder charges. His friends were not hurt.
