Houston—Rear-End Crash on US 59 Injures Officer

A Houston police officer is recovering after getting involved in a car accident on US 59 Southwest Freeway, Saturday evening.
At around 10:00 p.m., local responders received a dispatch call regarding a crash US 59 near 288 South Freeway. As police officers investigate the initial crash, an SUV then struck the rear side of the patrol car, injuring the officer in the process.
The officer, whose name has yet to be released, sustained facial fractures and rib injuries. He was immediately taken to a local hospital by emergency crews. As per reports, the injured officer is recovering.
HPD is investigating the SUV driver. Further details surrounding the accident are very limited at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
