A man was reported to have died after his vehicle flipped over the I-69 southbound ramp at 610 North, Eastex Freeway, near Kelley Street around 11 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Police reported that the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene once he was located. And though there has been an investigation, there is yet no word as to what caused the accident in the first place.
Supposedly, motorcycles are far less crashworthy than closed vehicles because of their design and nature, but that still does not stop vehicular accidents involving motorcycles to happen. According to the National highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 5,286 people died in motorcycle crashes in 2016, which is a 5.1% increase from 2015’s 5,029. Furthermore, in 2016, motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.
This incident involving a motorcycle on Eastex Freeway is a perfect example of how dangerous it can be to travel via a motorcycle, so extra care must be exerted to avoid more accidents in the future.
