A tragic accident on Katy Freeway caused the death of a man, Saturday, according to a local news source.
Last April 6, local officials responded to Katy Freeway at Studemont in an unspecified time. Police said that as vehicles were at a standstill along the eastbound lanes of the highway, a maroon vehicle traveling at an unsafe speed rear-ended one vehicle. It then struck a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler truck.
The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Luis Torres.
The driver of the maroon vehicle, Sheila Brown, was taken to a hospital for treatment. She was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in a death.
The driver of pickup truck and the 18-wheeler were not injured.
Our sincerest sympathies to the victim of this unfortunate accident. We strongly believe that the Houston Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Drunk driving in Texas commonly result in a serious injury and sometimes, death. While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise.
While it can be difficult to remain calm in a situation like this, it is important to know that you can be entitled to compensation and claims following a collision. If you or your loved one has been injured in a car accident caused by a negligent party or a driver under the influence of alcohol, you may have a right to a fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
