Houston Police Department has arrested the DUI driver involved in a car collision that killed two people on Beechnut near West Loop, reports say.
The driver was identified as 27-year-old Jacob Austin Emery. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
The major collision took place at around 2 a.m. at 8500 West Interstate Highway 610 South last January 20. A stalled white Lexus 300 was on the northbound lanes of Loop 610 when it was struck by a silver Ford Taurus. The Lexus was pushed to the left side of the highway where it was then hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck to which Emery was driving.
The impact of the collision instantly killed the driver of the Lexus. His name has not been disclosed pending identification and notification of family. His passenger, identified only as a female, was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at a later time.
Local officials said that Emery was intoxicated during the time of the collision. He was arrested and charged.
Our sincerest sympathies to the victim of this unfortunate accident. We pray for their full recovery as we hope that the Houston Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Drunk driving in Texas commonly result in a serious injury and sometimes, death. While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by the government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise.
While it can be difficult to remain calm in a situation like this, it is important to know that you can be entitled to compensation and claims following a collision. If you or your loved one has been injured in a car accident caused by a negligent party or a driver under the influence of alcohol, you may have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
