On the evening of January 12, 2019, a man died after he crashed his truck into an exit ramp on Interstate 45 in southeast Houston.
It is reported that the accident happened around 11:30 in the evening in the 14100 block of Gulf Freeway service road. The victim, an unnamed 50-year-old man, was driving a black Ford F-150 truck, heading south near the Astoria and Dixie Farm exit when all of a sudden, he lost his control of the vehicle. The truck then crashed into a part of the HOV exit ramp, causing it to spin back out in the feeder lanes. The driver, unfortunately, died immediately at the scene before any help could arrive.
The driver was the only casualty, however. There were no other individuals or vehicles that were involved in the accident.
Authorities have already begun their investigation, and yet they could not determine the cause of the crash. They could not indicate if the driver was intoxicated when the accident occurred.
It is an unfortunate thing to say that vehicular accidents like this are quite often. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of the day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone. Furthermore, the NHTSA also reports that 15% of fatal car accidents happen near intersections while the whopping 85% happen on the open road, which is the case for this particular vehicular accident.
