The Department of Public Safety is investigating a vehicle accident on US Highway 190, rural Bell County, which resulted in the death of two people, Monday afternoon.

Just after 2:00 p.m., a Kia passenger vehicle had been traveling along the eastbound lane of US Highway 190 when it drifted into the opposing lanes and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet SUV. The force of the impact killed both drivers of the Kia and the Chevrolet. They were pronounced deceased by responding officers. Meanwhile, a passenger in Chevrolet was rushed to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in critical condition.

No one else was hurt.

The highway was closed in the area of the crash between Pritchard Road and Five Wells Road to give way for clearing and investigation.
