Harrison County – Hallsville Man Died in Police Chase on Loop 281

A police purchase turned deadly resulting in one death of a man on Loop 281 near Farm to Market Road 2208, Tuesday evening.
According to initial reports, a local trooper was attempting to stop a red Chevrolet vehicle due to a traffic violation at around 11:00 p.m. Instead of pulling over, the vehicle accelerated prompting a 13-minute chase. As the car enters a sharp curve near Franklin Road, it went out of control and crashed. The driver of the car, identified as 41-year-old Stephen Matthews, was thrown off the vehicle in the process. He was declared deceased by emergency crews who responded to the scene.
No one else was injured, as per reports.
Responding officers have yet to determine liability.
The crash remains under investigation.
