Elderly passenger killed after car hits concrete pillar along the Eastex Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – An elderly passenger was killed after a car hit a concrete pillar along the Eastex Freeway on the morning of Sunday, May 23, the Houston Police Department reports.
According to authorities, a white Chevrolet Impala and a green Toyota Tundra were both driving southbound near 22000 Eastex Freeway around 10:45 a.m. when the Tundra’s driver attempted to switch lanes. The vehicle then hit the Impala and was sent crashing into a nearby sign.
The Tundra then hit a concrete pillar, killing a 76-year-old passenger inside the car. The male driver of the Tundra was injured, but the severity of his injuries is not known at this time.
The driver of the Impala was not hurt.
