The El Paso Police Department has identified the man who died in a fatal crash on Interstate 10 westbound at Artcraft Saturday morning.
According to initial reports, a 2011 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling along the highway when it rear-ended a sedan traveling on the same direction. The impact of the collision ejected the rider off his bike. His motorcycle then veered onto incoming traffic on I-10 East.
Local authorities have identified the motorcycle rider as 46-year-old Demond Williams. He died from the injuries he sustained from the collision.
No other injuries were reported.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was driving at an unsafe speed during the time of the accident.
Authorities have yet to determine liability as the investigation is still underway.
According to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of the day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. So that is about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone. Furthermore, the NHTSA also reports that 15% of fatal car accidents happen near intersections while the whopping 85% happen on the open road, which is the case for this particular vehicular accident.
