El Paso – Elderly Man Struck by A Car on Dyer Street

An elderly man crossing Dyer Street near Hondo Pass was struck by a passing vehicle, late Thursday night, according to a local news source.
At around 10:00 p.m., El Paso police officials received a notification about a collision that too place at the 9100 block of Dyer Street. Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears that a pedestrian, identified only as a 74-year-old El Paso man, attempted to cross in the said cross street when a passing sport utility vehicle struck him. The elderly man sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 60-year old Juan Leon of El Paso, stayed at the scene and assisted the victim until emergency crews arrived. Leon told the police that he attempted to avoid hitting the pedestrian but failed.
No one else was injured.
