DUI suspect charged, sports bar investigated for fatal crash in Katy

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 24-year-old man died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver who was leaving a Katy sports bar, reports ABC13 Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal collision occurred at the corner of North Westgreen Boulevard and Franz Road at around 2:20 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a female driver ran a red light at the intersection and struck the victim’s car, killing him at the scene.

The suspect then got out of her car and fled the scene, but was later turned herself in.

Authorities later learned the crash had happened about 12 minutes after the suspect left the Bourbon Street Sports Bar, which is now being investigated for possibly over-serving alcohol under the Texas dram shop law.

The case is being handled by the Vehicular Crimes Division with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
