HOUSTON, TX — A 62-year-old man died Friday morning after a two-vehicle collision on South Loop West Freeway in Houston’s Link Valley area, reports Houston Police Department.
The fatal wreck occurred in the 4100 block of the southbound freeway, near Stella Link Road, at about 10:35 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving a Ford Transit van eastbound on the freeway when he veered out of his lane and hit a trailer attached to a blue Peterbilt tractor.
Authorities said the driver of the tractor-trailer pulled to the shoulder, but their trailer was hit a second time by the van as both vehicles pulled over and came to a rest on the shoulder.
The driver of the van, who had fallen unconscious at the scene, was rushed to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
An investigation was underway, but authorities believe the victim may have suffered a medical emergency moments before the crash. His cause of death is expected to be determined pending an autopsy.
