HOUSTON, TX — A woman died Thursday night after a single-vehicle collision on State Highway 249 near northwest Houston’s Willowbrook area, reports Click2Houston.
The fatal accident occurred on the outbound lanes near West Greens Road at approximately 10:55 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when she lost control of the vehicle. The pickup ran off the roadway before striking a small barrier and a road sign. The vehicle then arrived at a rest in a cluster of trees.
Authorities said the victim appeared to have been ejected in the crash. Houston Fire Department crews pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Shortly after the first crash, a Houston Police officer was helping to divert traffic away from the scene when his patrol car was hit by a sedan nearly head-on.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Authorities said the driver of the sedan was suspected of DUI and was arrested.
