A driver who has been involved in a car accident that killed a motorcyclist on Farm to Market 517 Road has been cited, a news police release says.
According to initial reports, the fatal crash took place at around 12:56 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of West FM 517 Road. How the crash exactly happened is yet to be released by local officials but it was confirmed that a Mazda sedan collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle, ejecting its driver who was then hit by a Hyundai Elantra vehicle. The motorcyclist was pinned under the Hyundai when local paramedics arrived at the scene.
Emergency crews pronounced the rider dead at the scene. His identification has not been released as of this writing.
The Mazda driver, whose identity remains unknown, received a citation for failure to yield, which is a class C misdemeanor traffic offense.
The League City Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased victim.
DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), along with speeding and driving while distracted, is a common cause of car accidents, and it is quite an appalling one. According to the NHTSA, about 28 people die every day as a result of drunk driving crashes, and in 2010, 10,228 people died in drunk driving accidents — one every 52 minutes — while about 345,000 were injured. These statistics do not bode well at all, and something has to be done to stop these numbers from going up.
If you are a victim of a car accident/DUI accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there to help you, but more than that, car accident lawyers, especially those who specialize in DUI accidents, are always willing to help you in protecting your rights and getting you the justice that you deserve.
