Del Valle – 2 Died Following Car Crash on Highway 71

Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of the victims who died in a fatal vehicle crash on Texas Highway 71 in Del Valle.
They were identified as Joanna Menchaca and Jose Velazquez.
According to the initial investigation, Jose Velazquez was driving a vehicle along State Highway 71 when it collided with a speeding car at around 9:30 a.m. The impact of the collision left significant injuries to both Velasquez and Menchaca. They were pronounced deceased by emergency crews who arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the speeding vehicle, 21-year-old Joseph Diaz, sustained minor injuries. He told responding officers that he was trying to catch a flight and was in a hurry. Diaz was taken into custody and is facing two felony manslaughter charges.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation continues.
