Authorities are still investigating a fatal car accident that killed one person on Westmoreland Road last Wednesday evening.
According to initial reports, the wreck took place at around 11:00 p.m. on Westmoreland Road near Davis Street. A vehicle was traveling on the southbound lanes of Westmoreland when it collided with another vehicle that was heading east on Davis Street. The second vehicle then crashed into a third vehicle at the intersection. Preliminary investigation shows that the first vehicle ran a red light prior to the accident.
The impact of the collision trapped the driver of the second vehicle inside. She was rushed to the nearest hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Local authorities later identified her as by Andrea Osmara Rodriguez-Perez, 22. Meanwhile, the driver of the first vehicle fled the scene following the crash. He was identified as Julio Menendez-Guerrero, 24.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash is under investigation.
It is terrible to hear of the passing of Andrea Osmara Rodriguez-Perez, but it is even more terrible to realize that she is not the first victim whose life is taken away by a car accident. Vehicular accidents like this happen quite often nowadays. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
If you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then don’t lose hope. The police will always be there for you, but more than that, car accident lawyers/personal injury lawyers are also willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
