At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, a collision involving an intoxicated driver occurred on Marvin D. Love Freeway near South Hampton Road in Red Bird, Dallas, leaving 2 people critically injured.
According to the police reports, the first collision occurred when a Mitsubishi hit the center concrete wall in the HOV lane after it was cut off by another vehicle.
The driver of the Mitsubishi waited for the police to arrive, but a Ford Escort crashed into the back of his car, causing it to flip over.
The driver and the passenger of the Ford were both critically injured in the crash, according to the police. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
The police believe that the driver of the Ford was intoxicated.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims of this particular accident. Sadly, this is not the first time that someone is seriously injured because of a car accident. Car accidents like this happen quite often nowadays. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), along with speeding and driving while distracted, is a common cause of car accidents, and it is quite an appalling one. According to the NHTSA, about 28 people die every day as a result of drunk driving crashes, and in 2010, 10,228 people died in drunk driving accidents — one every 52 minutes — while about 345,000 were injured. These statistics do not bode well at all, and something has to be done to stop these numbers from climbing up.
If you are a victim of a car accident/DUI accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there to help you, but more than that, car accident lawyers are always willing to help you in protecting your rights and getting you the justice that you deserve.
