Corpus Christi – Officer Killed Following Crash on SH 358

The Corpus Christi Police Department has released the name of the officer who died in a car accident on State Highway 358 near Carroll Lane, according to a local news source.

Authorities identified the victim as police officer Alan McCollum.

Just before 10:00 p.m., Officer McCollum and two more officers were conducting a traffic stop along the westbound lane of Carroll Ln when they were struck by a passing car. The impact of the crash killed McCollum on scene. Another officer, identified as Officer Micheal Love, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Love is expected to recover, reports say.

No one else was injured.

The driver of the vehicle involved was identified as 26-year-old Brandon Portillo. It remains unclear if he will be charged.

An investigation is underway.
