Construction worker fatally hit by vehicle on SH-99 EB near New Caney

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — A man died Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle on a newly-constructed section of State Highway 99 near New Caney, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter.
Crews with Montgomery County Hospital District and Porter Fire responded to the scene on the eastbound highway (Grand Parkway) near Loop 494 shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Few details have been released at this time, but an early investigation indicates the man had just gotten off a piece of construction equipment. For reasons unknown reasons, he darted north across the northbound lane and was hit by another construction working who was driving off the site in his personal vehicle.
First responders arrived to find the male pedestrian non-responsive at the scene. Despite life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after.
An investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety was in progress.
